Updated info:
I heard about the Atkins diet years ago, but ignored it in favour of my own method, which was essentially a restrictive calorie diet. I worked OK, but a year or so later I was exercising less and put the weight back on. I saw the Atkins book in a second hand bookshop for 40p (that is about 80 cents in the USA) so picked it up. Very interesting first few chapters. Realised that I may have a problem, in that in the last few months I had been shaking and feeling dizzy at times if I had not eaten.
Anyway, started the diet last Tuesday, so now been almost 1 week. Already lost 1.5kg (3lbs). Currently blogging my progress too. I am now 92.5kg, but want to get down to at least 85kg, which I managed a few years ago. Also looking to build more muscle.
Did some weight training today, also do martial arts on week nights after work. Aiming to lose my weight by mid-summer, in time for the good weather and my wedding anniversary.
I have been practising martial arts since I started at university in 1992. I also do some weight training and jogging to get fit. I am currently out of shape, due in part to laziness, and also a serious ankle injury last year.
In the summer of 1992 Channel 4 (I think) showed Jackie Chan films every week. My mate and I watched them, and then started renting DVD's. Before we went off to Uni (separate ones) we agreed that we would both look for a kung-fu club. At Christmas we met up again (this was the days before mobile phones and email, so we did not speak from Summer to Christmas) I found Shaolin Five Pattern Hung kuen in Preston, and my mate found Hung Kuen Five Pattern Kung-fu in Exeter. At first we were shocked that we both found the same clubs, and my mate was also shocked that I had graded, and he had not. But it soon emerged that the two styles we were doing, although sounding the same, were vastly different.
My current goal is to run a mile in 7 minutes (or two in 14 minutes), lose my gut, and generally look good. I also hope to improve on my kung-fu this year, as I have not graded for a couple of years now, and really need to work harder to gain that black sash.
- Weekly Routine
Monday: Kick-boxing and Kung-fu
Tuesday: Jog
Wednesday: Kick-boxing and kung-fu
Thursday: Weight training pull session
Friday: Jog
Saturday: Jog
Sunday: Weight training push sessionThis is more or less my weekly routine. Often I miss a session, usually I rest at least 2 days a week. I always try to get to my kung-fu classes, but do not always attend the whole kick-boxing class.
